Thought to have disappeared: Wild cat caught in a photo trap in the west of Styria
What a surprise! On 7 March 2024, an animal species that was previously thought to be extinct appeared in Eibiswald, disctrict Deutschlandsberg in Styria: the European wildcat. It was last seen in the local forests in the middle of the 20th century. For experts, this sighting is a real sensation.
The ICU CLOM camera stationed on the Soboth and operated by District Hunting Master Johann Silberschneider captured the marvellous animal on its nightly foray.

Even though ICU CLOM is not directly involved in the organisation's "Wildcat Coordination and Reporting Centre" project, we support numerous projects that aim to protect species - both inside and outside Austrian territory.
This is not just about wildlife: a new collaboration with the Tanzanian NGO ZAVECO is focussing on the conservation of local mangrove forests on Zanzibar. A report on this will follow soon.
Our ICU CLOM trail cameras are perfectly designed for this purpose for several reasons:
- they produce high-quality day and night images
- thanks to the long-term energy supply (from our CELLPOWER 18650 batteries and our SolarCell solar panel), they are constantly ready for use for weeks and months, which is why the area under observation does not have to be entered for a long time and therefore no human traces or odours are left behind.
- they withstand wind and weather in the long term: in summer and winter, in rain and sunshine
