ZAVECO to protect mangrove trees and ecosystems with ICU CLOM technology

We are pleased to support ZAVECO, the Zanzibar Volunteers for Environmental Conservation, in their efforts to protect the mangrove trees from poachers in the village of Unguja Ukuu in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

As science has already shown, mangroves are an important building block in the fight against climate change: on the one hand, they grow in places where no other plants thrive, and on the other, they store significantly more carbon than other forests. They also serve as a protective barrier against floods and storms.

According to a study by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), around half of the world's mangrove forests are in danger. In addition to environmental pollution, the main reason for this is deforestation caused by humans.

ICU CLOM  has made its equipment available to counteract this deforestation. By the combination of the ICU CLOM cameras with the power supply from our SolarCell solar panels, an almost unlimited runtime on site is guaranteed. This not only reduces the ongoing maintenance time for on-site staff, but also keeps the various locations of the surveillance systems hidden for extended periods.

Students from MWECAU-Mwenge Catholic University have joined the team to test the ICU CLOM Cam 5. The network cameras will be an important tool to collect valuable data for the mangrove tree conservation initiative.
